Paper crafts are my favorite!
But a close second is working with fabric. I have been sewing and quilting since I was a little girl. My mom and grandma are both excellent seamstresses and it is in my blood.
A couple of years ago I got an embroidery machine and I love it.
When I found out I could cut all my embroidery applique pieces using my Silhouette my heart soared!
Today I am going to show you how to use your Cameo to cut the heart applique for this banner.
You will need Silhouette Designer Edition Plus or Business Edition.
1. In Silhouette Studio, go to open and navigate to where your embroidery files are stored.
2. In the Bottom Left corner, click on the drop down menu and select the file type (I choose PES but Silhouette will also open DST, EXP, JEF, and XXX, all embroidery files)
3. Select the size you will need for your hoop (in this example I am doing the 4x4)
4. Separate all the pieces. For this file there are only two, the placement line and the stitch lines. Most files will have many more pieces.
Here is the example of the L. It has 4 pieces when separated.
5. Delete all of the pieces, except for the solid shape. (usually the placement line)
This will be your applique piece.
6. If you are doing the Chenille, you will need to make 2 copies, for a total of 3 heart pieces. (follow the instructions on your pattern)
Now just follow the instructions I gave you yesterday for cutting your fabric applique pieces.
*Tip. When cutting for an embroidery project, you do not want to resize the image. If you do it will not match up when you take it to your machine.
Now you can skip the stitch down step and trimming your fabric in the hoop.
And your pieces will have a nice edge, without all the little threads.
I almost always use my Silhouette to cut my embroidery applique pieces. In the long run it saves time, thread and frustration!
The letters for my Banner are from Kimberbell - Thats so Chenille.
The heart is one I found on the internet, but unfortunately can't remember where.
